Roshen completes Russian factory closure

Confectionery manufacturer Roshen has completed the closure of its factory in Lipetsk, Russia.

The closure, which was first announced in January, came in three stages. In April, the company suspended all production lines, in May the cold and heat supply systems were shut down and this month the sewage disposal unit, boiler rooms and water intakes were closed. The factory is said to only produce caramel.

The warehouse of the finished products ceased its operation, as well as the trading house LLC Roshen, which was engaged in product selling.

Production at the Lipetsk confectionery factory started to fall in 2013, due in part to a ban by Rospotrebnadzor on imports of Roshen’s Ukrainian products to the Russian Federation and the "active discrediting activities" against the factory.

The company claims it is one of the top 30 largest confectionery manufacturers in the world, with its factories in Kyiv, Kremenchug, two confectionery facilities in Vinnytsia and a dairy plant in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. It also operates a confectionery factory in Klaipėda, Lithuania, and a chocolate facility in Bonbonetti, Hungary.
