Popular discount supermarket Aldi has shared that it spent an additional £1.3 billion with its British suppliers during 2023.
In fact, Britain’s fourth largest supermarket has claimed that now, British suppliers provide “more than three quarters of all items sold in its stores”.
Currently, Aldi works with around 5,000 suppliers across the UK and, according to a GSCOP annual survey, it was ranked as “the best supermarket for conducting relationships fairly and in good faith for a total of 10 years.
Commenting on Aldi’s relationship with British suppliers, Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, shared: “British suppliers are the lifeblood of our business and without them Aldi wouldn’t be wher it is today. We will always be at their side.
“Longstanding relationships with suppliers are at the heart of our success and we are proud to work with so many British suppliers, helping to bolster job opportunities and investment in the UK supply chain.”
With the discount supermarket recently reporting its best Christmas sales, generating over $1.5 billion in 2023, it will be interesting to see how Aldi evolves over the course of the next year. In fact, it recently committed to opening a further 500 stores across the UK and has shared that it is planning to invest more than $1.4 billion in the next two years.
