The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has released the four Enforcement Orders it served on food businesses in November for breaches of food safety laws. The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE).

Two Closure Orders were served under the FSAI Act, 1998 on:

Roma Grill, a take-away, The Crescent, Boyle, Roscommon
Clonark Home Cooked Foods, a bakery, Clonark, Cornafulla, Athlone, Roscommon
One Closure Order was served under the EC Official Control of Foodstuffs Regulations,
2010 on:

Kebab Zone, a take-away, Main Street, Ballindine, Mayo
One Prohibition Order was served under the EC Official Control of Foodstuffs Regulations,
2010 on:

Salius Milasius, a retailer, 68 Shannon Park, Edgeworthstown, Longford

In announcing the actions, FSAI Chief Executive Pamela Byrne said the legal onus is on food businesses to ensure that they are fully compliant with food safety legislation. She said food businesses must be familiar with the main factors that are easily preventable which can cause foodborne illness, namely: poor hygiene in the premises; inappropriate storage or inadequate refrigeration; inadequate cooking or re-heating; cross-contamination from raw to cooked food; infected food handlers; contaminated raw ingredients; inadequately trained or supervised staff.

Byrne urged food businesses to take full advantage of the information and support provided by the inspectorate and the FSAI to ensure that they implement the correct food safety management systems. Any food business owner who unsure of what is required of them by law, they can contact the FSAI advice line at info@fsai.ie or visit its website www.fsai.ie or facebook page.
