Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., a business unit of JAB Holding Co., and Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev) have entered into a joint venture to research and develop an in-home alcohol drink system, AB InBev said. The partnership will focus on North America.
The new system will utilize AB InBev’s brewing and packaging technology, the company said, as well as build on Keurig Green Mountain’s Keurig Kold technology. The Keurig Kold system, an in-home, single-serve cold beverage platform, was launched in fall 2015 and discontinued last June. The company alluded to repurposing its Keurig Kold technology when it announced the system’s discontinuation.
“We view our initial Kold system launch as a pioneering execution,” Keurig said in its June 2016 announcement. “We learned a lot — including that consumers are willing to embrace the concept of a system that delivers fresh-made, cold beverages in the home — and we’ll build our learnings into future beverage systems.”
The joint venture employees will come from the current AB InBev and Keurig teams and will be located in facilities in Massachusetts and Vermont.
“We are excited to partner with AB InBev to develop a new system for the adult beverage category,” said Bob Gamgort, chief executive officer of Keurig. “We look forward to combining our capabilities and technologies to deliver innovation for consumers.”
