US-based fruit and vegetable processing company Seneca Foods has partnered with Valspar to add the latters valPure logo to its canned vegetable labels.
A Valspars brand of non-BPA can lining technologies, valPure offers protection for canned food items.
The company claims that valPure has been assessed using Safety by Design, a process that has been developed for the pharmaceutical sector that ensures safe and sustainable solutions.
"Our top priority is to provide the highest quality, most nutritious foods that our consumers can trust."
With this new partnership, Seneca has become the first canned vegetable processor to switch to BPA non-intent linings, and has updated its labels to provide greater transparency of the materials used instead of BPA.
Seneca Foods marketing vice-president Bruce Wolcott said: "Our consumers want labels that inform them of the composition and safety of this alternative can lining.
"Our top priority is to provide the highest quality, most nutritious foods that our consumers can trust."
With this development, Seneca has now transitioned many of its canned vegetables under the Libbys brand to valPure linings.
Valspar global packaging senior vice-president Sam Shoemaker said: "With infinite recyclability and efficient manufacturing, metal cans offer a safe and sustainable option for food packaging."
The company further claims that its valPure can lining technologies are based on polymeric components that are not derived from Bisphenol A.
