More than 600 Des Moines-based Kemin employees have officially moved in to the new Kemin Industries worldwide headquarters building, located at 1900 Scott Avenue.
Located in the emerging development area of the southeast corridor near downtown, the 94,000 square-foot building houses work spaces, laboratories, collaboration areas and a fitness center. The new building is the final extension of the state-of-the-art Molecular Advancement Center Research Facility, which opened in July 2013. The new building, a $30 million investment, completes the five-year, $125.5 million overall investment in the Kemin Des Moines facilities.
“Our new global headquarters creates an inspiring and collaborative work environment for our employees,” said Dr. Chris Nelson, President and CEO of Kemin Industries. “At Kemin, we believe our employees are our most valuable asset, and we are excited to see the innovation that sparks from bringing all of our teams under one roof.”
Founded in 1961 by R.W. and Mary Nelson, Kemin has been located in the southeast corridor since its first office was located in a wool warehouse just one block from the new headquarters. After more than half a century, Kemin continues to invest in the Des Moines community, while growing strategically around the globe.
Other Kemin expansion projects include:
Regional headquarters in Lipetsk, Russia, opening in April
Regional headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa
Encapsulation manufacturing facility in Des Moines
Molecular Advancement Center Research Facility in Des Moines
“Our dedication to investing and growing in the Des Moines community, and around the world, provides the resources our teams need to move our vision forward of improving the quality of life by touching half the people of the world every day with our products and services,” said Nelson.
The official grand opening of the headquarters will be held this August.
