The volumes of fruit pulp exports this year have been much lower than in 2016. According to Agrodata Peru, in January Peru exported 298,557 kilos of these products, far less than the 925,121 kilos that the country shipped in the same month last year. In February, the difference was smaller but it was still negative. The country exported 367,899 kilos, while last year it exported 541,077 kilos in the same month.
In the first two months of this year, Peru exported a total of 666,456 kilos of fruit pulp at an FOB value of US $1,310,231. The most outstanding pulp exports in this period were of avocado pulp (which amounted to $419,000), blueberry pulp ($ 385,000), banana pulp (US $ 267,000), and of mango pulp (US $ 267,000).
According to the same source, the main buyer of this item was the United States with acquisitions of US $212,000. It was followed by the United Kingdom (US $ 173,000), the Netherlands (US $135,000), Chile (US $79,000), and Japan (US $68,000).
The major exporting companies during the first two months of the year were Camposol SA, with 26% of total shipments, followed by Phoenix Foods SAC (18%), Sociedad Agricola Viru SA (17%), Sunshine Export SAC (3%), and other with smaller amounts that together represent 37%.
