According to US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled products contain malted barley, a known allergen that was not declared on the product label.
This problem was identified by FSIS Office of Public Health Science (OPHS), when it received a consumer complaint on 11 July about the mislabeling of Lou’s Garret Valley Black Forest Seasoned Uncured Ham Nugget, which is produced by Hahn Brothers.
The complainant noted that malted barley is listed as an ingredient on the company’s website, but not on the product label.
The RTE ham products were produced between 17 December 2015 and 27 July this year, and shipped to a distributor in New Jersey and further distributed to retail locations.
The products that have been recalled bear establishment number ‘EST. 2000’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Until now, Hahn Brothers have not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
Customers who have bought these products have been advised not to consume them, and to dispose or return it to the place of purchase.
This has been classified as a Class II recall, which indicates that there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
