Natural and organic meat brand Applegate has introduced its sugar-free bacon in the US.
The company’s Naturals No Sugar Bacon is also claimed to be free from casein and gluten.
A recent survey found 65% of adults intend to reduce or completely avoid sugar in their diet and revealed sugar as the top item they are trying to avoid.
Applegate stated that the humanely raised product is aimed at sugar-conscious consumers who want bacon that does not list sugar as an ingredient but maintains a hickory smoke flavour.
Applegate marketing vice-president Nicole Glenn said: "With a growing demand for sugar-free options, were excited to deliver a bacon that supports the needs of those looking to reduce their sugar intake while upholding Applegate values, making products with humanely raised meats and simple ingredients.
"Providing worry-free meats people want to eat is vital to us and this new bacon is a product were proud to offer."
Applegate Naturals No Sugar Bacon is available at Fresh Market and Hy-Vee at a suggested retail price of $5.49.
For more than three decades, Applegate has been producing natural and organic hot dogs, bacon, sausages, deli meats, cheese and frozen products. Its products are claimed not to contain GMO ingredients, antibiotics, artificial ingredients, chemical nitrites or nitrates.
