Conestoga Meat Packers is set to expand its pork processing capacity at its Breslau facility by 86% with an investment from the ontario Government in Canada.

Granted through the governments Jobs and Prosperity Fund, the C$5.3m ($4.3m) investment is expected to increase productivity and create nearly 170 new jobs at the Breslau facility.

Conestoga is reportedly one of the second largest pork processors in Ontario. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Progressive Pork Producers co-operative, which includes 157 southwestern ontario hog producers.

The investment will be used by Conestoga to purchase new equipment that will almost double its meat processing capacity.

"This investment will help Conestoga build a state-of-the-art processing facility facilitating more high-quality product for markets in Canada and around the world."

The Jobs and Prosperity Fund has been created by the government to help companies to secure private sector investment in Ontario, and allow the government to partner with businesses that are creating jobs and enhancing productivity, innovation and exports in the region.
