3M Food Safety has launched its new 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 – Campylobacter, with 3M Campylobacter Enrichment Broth, to provide efficient testing for a common pathogen associated with poultry production.
Poultry producers can use 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 – Salmonella, and 3M Molecular Detection Assay 2 – Campylobacter, as a complete solution for simultaneous monitoring of both pathogens in poultry.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention figures show Campylobacter causes around 1.3 million illnesses every year in the US.
With the 3M’s new testing kit, customers can safeguard against this pathogen while increasing laboratory productivity.
The testing process is claimed to be faster than alternative options such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR), immunoassay and culture methods. A streamlined protocol for Campylobacter and Salmonella implies the system can carry out up to 96 tests of multiple types in just a 60-minute run.
3M Food Safety marketing manager for new products Christopher Somero said: “We are providing the poultry industry with a complete solution that is simplified to achieve fast, highly accurate results.
“While this product was developed to give our customers an easier workflow, an additional benefit is increased protection of their products and brands from the threat of this pathogen.”
"We are providing the poultry industry with a complete solution that is simplified to achieve fast, highly accurate results."
The conventional Campylobacter enrichment protocols require 11 or more steps, but the 3M Campylobacter Enrichment Broth can be completed in five steps.
This provides scope for poultry testing labs to focus on other important aspects of the food testing.
The 3M Campylobacter Enrichment Broth does not require expensive microaerophilic incubation, supplements, blood, organic solvents or autoclaving the broth. The only input is sterile water.
The 3M Molecular Detection System platform is used by food processors, universities, governments and contract testing laboratories in more than 40 countries.
This platform incorporates a mix of advanced technologies including isothermal DNA amplification and bioluminescence detection to offer a fast and accurate pathogen testing solution.
The new testing system can run alongside molecular tests provided by 3M for Salmonella, E. coli O157, Cronobacter, Listeria and Listeria monocytogenes.
