Biorigin has reinforced its commitment to transparency, the companys line of yeast extracts, Bionis, has achieved Non-GMO Project Verified status for 38 if its natural ingredients portfolio. Biorigin claims to be always following the most important demands and market trends in order to work on the art of creating natural, non-GMO, clean label and sustainable solutions which promote peoples health and well-being.

“Consumers seek healthy, natural alternatives that bring sustainability appeal. In addition, they require transparency from the food industry and check product labels for their composition,” says Claudia Crepaldi, Food Business Manager at Biorigin.

The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization committed to preserving and building sources of non-GMO products, educating consumers and providing verified non-GMO choices. “The Non-GMO Project Verified label helps consumers to differentiate products and adding value to our customers’ products is Biorigins main strategy. By delivering innovative ingredients from natural and safe sources we reinforce our ethical and transparency commitments to improve food taste and consumers’ health,” notes Laura Simon, Food Product Manager at Biorigin.

“It was a great achievement for us,” she adds.

At IFT 2018, Biorigin launched Bionis YE GMX DK (roasted profile yeast extract) and presented the complete Bionis yeast extract line, which features solutions for rounding off the taste and umami, reducing sodium and sugar and also being a natural alternative for the caramel coloring and roasted flavors.

“Consumers are looking for healthier products in the market, so the biggest trend right now is in sugar reduction. Yeast extract is usually used in savory products but can also be used in sweet applications. It will not have the same sweet notes as sugar but can be used to enhance the body of the product,” Maria Helena Branco, Biorigin, tells FoodIngredientsFirst. The company presented an iced coffee with a 25 percent reduced sugar formulation using a dark yeast extract which works in synergy with the coffee and caramel notes.
