F.lli Rescina specializes in table grapes and has recently introduced a new packaging solution for the various grape varieties, sold mainly abroad.
"We own 30 hectares in the Bari and Taranto provinces producing the Italia, Red Globe and Superior varieties. Our catalog includes seeded and seedless white, black and red grapes," explains Gianni Rescina, who owns the company with his father Domenico and his brother Giuseppe.
"Harvesting grapes at the right moment is not enough to supply the best quality. The fruit must be processed and packaged with precise efficient equipment that respects its integrity and can handle large quantities in little time."
The company is one of the leading exporting hubs of the south-east Bari area. "We produce approximately 3,000 tons of grapes per month with a turnover of around €9 million."
F.lli Rescina is aware that packaging plays an essential role to guarantee the freshness of the fruit and better promote the product, therefore it has put a lot of effort into studying and designing the best packaging solutions (wooden crates, cardboard boxes and punnets), which also meet the needs of foreign chains.
"The table grape campaign is not doing so well due to the low prices, quality problems and Spanish competition. Our new packaging solution was developed to stand out and is perfect to make grapes a snack to go. Weve shipped a pallet to Sweden and another one to the UK. The first feedback should come in in around two weeks time."
The packaging with the Sweet Heart band was officially launched on 25th August 2018. "The 250 gram punnet was developed by Nespak. We chose it as it had a deeper lid, so it doesnt squish the product and can be placed in cardboard crates more easily."
The Sweet Heart brand
F.lli Rescina is very well known for its Sweet Heart brand.
"It was a warm September day and we were harvesting the Italia grapes. A German importer was visiting us to selec the best quality to purchase and tasted some of our fruit. He said that it was delicious and very sweet and that we ought to create a range to make it stand out. Thats how the Sweet Heart brand was born."
