US-based Fieldsource Food Systems has issued a recall for nearly 12,953lb of diced beef and chicken products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.
According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled products contained wheat, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.
Products that are subject to recall include 20lb boxes containing four unmarked 5lb plastic bags with ‘Fieldsource Food Systems Northgate Market Marinated Beef Cubes’ and 20lb boxes containing four unmarked 5lb plastic bags with ‘Fieldsource Food Systems Northgate Market Marinated Chicken Cubes’.
The beef and chicken products bear the establishment number EST 45141 and P-45141 inside the USDA marks of inspection.
FSIS identified the issue during its routine label verification process.
The uncooked and marinated diced beef and chicken cubes were produced from 9 June to 10 July and were shipped to grocery stores in California. They were also used behind deli counters, wher they are not sold uncooked to consumers.
According to the US agency, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of the products. Concerned consumers have been urged to contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be in restaurant freezers and has advised restaurants not to serve the product.
Consumers have been urged not to consume the products and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
The recall has been categorised as Class II, which is a health hazard situation wher there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
