US-based Conagra Brands is recalling nearly 32,400lb of canned beef products due to a potential processing defect.
According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the processing defect could lead to the survival of bacterial pathogens.
The products subject to recall include 15oz canned items of ‘Kaskey’s beefy mac pasta in tomato and meat sauce’, which were produced on 18 July.
Bearing an establishment number ‘EST 794’ inside the USDA mark of inspection, the canned beef items were shipped to distribution centres and retail locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland and Texas.
Conagra Brands identified the issue during its routine activities.
So far, no confirmed reports of adverse reactions have been reported as a result of the consumption of the products.
FSIS stated that anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers were urged not to consume the products and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
The recall has been categorised as Class II, a health hazard situation wher there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences following the use of the product.
In May, Conagra Brands recalled nearly 2,094,186lb of frozen entrees over misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen.
The recall includes ‘PF Chang’s Home Menu Chicken Pad Thai and Chicken Fried Rice’.
According to FSIS, the product contained milk, a known allergen, which was not declared on the product label.
