US-based meat producer Tyson Foods is planning to rebuild its beef plant in Holcomb, Kansas, which was partly destroyed by fire.
The plant was shut down by the company indefinitely after the fire incident. Cleaning works have been initiated at the site.
Tyson Fresh Meats group president Steve Stouffer said: “This is a difficult time for our team members and their families, and we want to ensure they’re taken care of.
“Today, we will notify our full-time, active team members that they’ll be paid weekly until production resumes.”
“We’re taking steps to move production to alternative sites. Tyson Foods has built-in some redundancy to handle situations like these and we will use other plants within our network to help keep our supply chain full.”
The company also noted that regardless of the hours worked, all full-time active employees of the facility will receive weekly payments until the facility resumes its production operations.
However, the company did not specify the exact timeline with regard to the facility opening and resumption of manufacturing activities.
Tyson Foods currently operates six plants in Kansas and employs more than 5,600 people in the region.
During the last fiscal year, the company paid $269m in wages in the Kansas region and estimates the economic impact in the state to be more than $2.4bn.
Earlier this month, Tyson Foods opened a facility in Springdale, Arkansas, to develop more automation and robotics for its food production plants.
Tyson Manufacturing Automation Center (TMAC) will be used to develop manufacturing solutions. It will offer space for collaboration with the company’s IT team and equipment suppliers, as well as provide training for team members.
