KFC has teamed up with vegan mavericks Beyond Meat to trial plant-based fried chicken in the US.

The fast food chain worked with Beyond Meat to create plant-based chicken that would appeal to vegans and meat-eaters alike.

The trial takes place today (27 August) at one restaurant in Atlanta wher customers can sample meat-free nuggets or boneless wings.

“KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is so delicious, our customers will find it difficult to tell that it’s plant-based,” said Kevin Hochman, President and Chief Concept Officer at KFC US.

“I think we’ve all heard ‘it tastes like chicken’ – well our customers are going to be amazed and say, ‘it tastes like Kentucky Fried Chicken!’”

KFC said that it will take customer feedback from the Atlanta test into consideration as it mulls a broader test of a potential national rollout.
