Cheese manufacturer Grounded Foods has reportedly raised capital for its plant-based cheese versions through a funding round led by Stray Dog Capital.
Stray Dog Capital is a venture capital (VC) fund that focuses on supporting plant-based start-up companies.
Grounded Foods raised $1.74m in the funding round, which also included participants such as Rocana Ventures, Veg Invest Trust and the GlassWall Syndicate, The Spoon reported.
Part of the Big Idea Ventures accelerator, Grounded Foods is engaged in the production of a wide range of cheese products, including camembert, gruyere and feta.
The plant-based cheese-products are said to have been produced using cauliflower as well as other ingredients such as hemp and oats.
Using cauliflower as the primary ingredient and its proprietary fermentation process, Grounded Foods makes plant-based versions of different cheeses.
In February, Grounded Foods announced the launch of vegan Camembert cheese in a small number of New York City restaurants. The cheese was initially available in high-end NYC restaurants.
