Flowers Foods has closed its bakery in Savannah, Ga., for a week due to a rise in COVID-19 cases among its production staff.
Of the 293 employees at the plant, 115 are being furloughed with pay. The plant, which produces fresh bread and buns sold in Georgia and South Carolina, is scheduled to be back in service on July 17.
“The company anticipates the closure will have little impact on its ability to service the market as other bakeries in Flowers network are offsetting the lost production in the near term, and the bakerys sales team and distribution network are expected to be unaffected,” Flowers said in a statement.
Flowers closed a bakery in Tucker, Ga., for similar reasons in April.
