Tyson Foods has created the position of chief medical officer as part of stepping up its efforts to deal with the pandemic.
The new chief medical officer, whose name was not announced, will administer what Tyson calls “a new, industry-leading monitoring program” for the virus. A central part of this program will be “testing based on an algorithm-based selection process.” Under this program, asymptomatic employees will be chosen for COVID-19 testing based on factors like infection rates in the plant and surrounding community.
In addition, the current companywide health staff of more than 400 nurses and administrative support personnel will be augmented by nearly 200 more.
“We believe launching a new, strategic approach to monitoring and adding the health staff to support it will help further our efforts to go on the offensive against the virus,” Donnie King, Tyson Foods’ group president, said in a statement. “Adding more resources and technologies reinforces our commitment to protecting our team members, their families and plant communities.”
