Schwan’s Co. has announced plans for a massive expansion of what it already bills as the world’s largest frozen pizza plant.
The 550,000-square-foot facility in Salina, Kansas, will be augmented by another 400,000 square feet, in a project due to be completed in 2023. The expansion will add new production lines, shipping and receiving docks, and office space. It will add 225 new full-time employees to the current workforce of 1,125. The company says that the plan will include “investments in technology and protocols designed to minimize risks during pandemic situations.”
Schwan’s bought the plant in 1970 when it was 18,000 square feet and built it into its current size.
“For 50 years, we have made steady investments in growing our operations in Salina, and our facility eventually became what we believe is the largest pizza production facility in the world,” CEO Dimitrios Smyrnios said in a statement.
