US-based integrated beef processor FPL Food has secured funding in an initial financing round to enhance operations at its facility in Augusta, Georgia.
The funds will be used by the company to expand its carcass cooler and fabrication floor as part of its multi-phased plan, which includes further development and reconstruction of the harvest and fabrication facility.
Through the expansion plan, the company aims to strengthen its position in the southeastern US beef processing sector.
FPL Food founder and CEO Francois Leger said: “Our company’s vision has always been to be a premier cattle producer and beef processor supporting southeastern US agriculture and providing premium quality beef to meet demand from our growing customer base.
“This expansion brings that vision to reality.”
The first phase is expected to be completed next year, following which the company will be able to run a second shift to enhance its Black Angus and Akaushi beef programmes’ production.
The remaining phases will be finished in the coming three years.
The company expects to process up to 2,500 Black Angus and Akaushi fed cattle weekly with the completion of the first phase. On completion of all phases, the throughput of the company is expected to exceed 5,000.
Additionally, the increased numbers will take total production to more than 10,000 heads a week.
With this expansion, the company aims to meet the increasing demand for its integrated beef brands, including Châtel Farms, True To Nature, and Southern River Farms Natural Beef.
