Tyson Foods has announced plans to expand a bacon processing plant in Vernon, Texas, at a cost of $25 million.
The facility in Vernon, about 170 miles northwest of Dallas, processes Wright brand bacon. The expansion is expected to add 32 workers to the plant’s current workforce of more than 800.
“This project is great news for our plant, our community and our customers,” plant manager Dane Bonfy said in a statement. “We love the Vernon community and look forward to growing our team with the additional positions and meeting the growing demand for our products.”
Wright is thick-cut, hand-trimmed bacon smoked over a variety of woods. Demand for bacon has grown 18% by volume since 2017, and the Wright brand has grown 29% during that time, the company says.
