US-based Battistoni Italian Specialty Meats is recalling nearly 22,630lb of ready-to-eat (RTE) Genoa Salami and Capocollo products over foreign matter contamination.
According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the foreign matter is specifically aluminium.
The issue was identified by a retailer on 11 October who notified the company that an aluminium clip was found during the preparation and slicing of the product.
The ready-to-eat (RTE) Salami and Capocollo items are generally sliced thin as a typical deli meat.
"The recall has been classified as Class II recall, which is termed as a health hazard situation."
The products that have been recalled include ‘Battistoni Genoa Salami with Wine’ and ‘Battistoni Hot Cooked Capocollo Boneless Pork Shoulder Butt Coated with Spices and Paprika’ bearing an establishment number ‘EST 2706’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.
These products are reported to have been produced on various dates from 30 January-21 August this year and were shipped to US foodservice establishments in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.
The company has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
The recall has been classified as Class II recall, which is termed as a health hazard situation wher there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use or consumption of the product.
