The EC authorizes marketing of mushrooms treated with ultraviolet radiation

The European Commission (EC) has approved the commercialization of mushrooms treated with ultraviolet radiation and enriched with vitamin D2 in their territory, following the request made from the Netherlands, which was accepted by the EC and the rest of the Member States.

The Official Journal of the European unio published the Regulation of Execution by which authorizes its use, with a maximum limit of 20 micrograms of vitamin D2 per 100 grams of fresh weight.

The standard states that, normally, consumers do not expect mushrooms to be subjected to ultraviolet radiation treatments, so the product should be labeled with this information so that consumers arent deceived.
