At the moment, the republic of Kyrgyzstan is expanding the range of their export products. This includes agricultural goods: agrarians in the Aravan district of Osh region are now shipping their products regularly to foreign markets and local farmers expanded their fruit acreage.
Local farmer Khabibulla Khamidov grows more than 10 varieties of fruits and berries, such as apricots, apples, pears, pomegranates and large crops of fig trees. “about 50 fig trees of three varieties, such as yellow, black and small are growing on 1,500 square meters of land.
In addition to fig trees, sweet cherries, peaches, persimmons and plums are also popular in the Aravan district. The lands which are used to grow fruits are increased by 20-25 hectares every year.”
After the Government permitted agrarians to plant gardens on marginal lands with problematic irrigation systems, the areas of fruit trees in the district started increasing. Moreover, accession to the EAEU allowed gardeners to export their fruits and earn more profit.
There is a total of 996 hectares of gardens in the Aravan district (Osh region). This year, farmers exported 400 tons of sweet cherries, 250 tons of peaches and the same amount of plums. Their organic products have attracted the attention of Chinese businessmen who signed an agreement on shipments of local fruits of the 2019 harvest.
