K2D Foods is recalling nearly 113,424lb of raw ground beef products over possible contamination with E. coli O103, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Products subject to recall include two 24lb vacuum-packed packages in cardboard boxes containing raw ‘Ground Beef Puck’ bearing an establishment number EST 51308 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The raw ground beef items were produced on 26 March, 29 March, 2 April, 5 April, 10 April and 12 April and were shipped to distributors in Port Orange, Florida, and Norcross, Georgia, for further distribution to restaurants.
An investigation is being carried out by FSIS along with its public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Tennessee Department of Health.
As part of the on-going investigation, unopened, intact ground beef has been collected from a restaurant location wher multiple case-patients reported dining and tested positive for E. coli O103.
Currently, no definitive link has been established between this product and the on-going E. coli O103 outbreak.
FSIS has urged restaurants not to serve these products and to throw them away or return to the place of purchase.
Further product analysis and traceback will continue to determine if the recalled products are related to the E. coli O103 outbreak.
In another development, Grant Park Packing is recalling approximately 53,200lb of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O103, according to the USDA FSIS.
